a perfect 3-0 mark.

victories over Turkey Run, Franklin Central, and Lake Central.

Here’s a game-by-game breakdown of McCutcheon’s wins in the round-robin tournament.

McCutcheon 14, 1A #12 Turkey Run 3 (5)
After
spotting Turkey run a 1-0 lead through a half-inning of play,
McCutcheon countered by scoring 8 times in the bottom of the first en
route to a five inning victory over the class A Warriors.

Megan
Millikan led the charge offensively for the Mavericks going 3 for 3 and
scoring 3 runs as McCutcheon improved to 8-1. Senior Tori Collins swung
a hot bat as well, going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.
Starting pitcher Brittany Keller got the victory, improving to 3-0 on
the season.

Turkey Run was led by Alex Woody and Ashley Johns who were each 2 for 3. The Warriors dropped to 0-6 with the loss.

McCutcheon 2, 4A #14 Franklin Central 0
Louisville signee Collins and Franklin Central’s Chanda Bell hooked up in a great pitchers duel for the first four innings.

The
game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth inning, with Bell
pitching a no-hitter and Collins having allowed just one hit to that
point.

However, McCutcheon’s Meg Teller lead of the bottom of
the fifth with a single and later scored the first run of the game on a
wild pitch by Bell. Teller then gave her team an insurance run in the
bottom of the sixth with an RBI double which scored Kelsey Rummel.

Meanwhile
Collins was absolutely dominant over the last four innings, striking
out eleven of the final 12 batters she faced. In fact, she nearly
struck out the side the last four endings; but Franklin Central’s Eleni
Prewitt snapped the streak by grounding out to Collins to end the
ballgame. For the game Collins pitched a one-hitter while striking out
15 as McCutcheon improved to 9-1.

Bell also allowed just one
hit, pitching five innings while giving up one run and striking out
nine. Franklin Central suffered its first defeat of the season after
four opening wins.

McCutcheon 2, 4A #12 Lake Central 0

The
Mavericks broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the sixth inning
by scoring two runs on two hits to capture the championship trophy of
the Mav Classic.

With one out in the sixth, Lake Central’s
Karissa Inglis walked Kendra Julian. Meg Teller then followed with a
base hit, putting two runners aboard. Next, Sarah Copley hit a ground
ball to Jen Kosinski at third base, who then threw the ball away
thinking that a teammate was to be covering third in an effort to force
out Julian. As result, Julian scored on the error giving the Mavericks
a 1-0 lead.  Collins then followed by delivering a bunt base hit and
the Mavericks took a 2-0 advantage.

Collins, the starting
pitcher, would make things interesting though in the top of the 7th by
loading the bases with two outs. However, she gathered herself and
struck out Lake Central’s Sarah Shields to end the game. The strikeout
was he her 10th of the game and her 25th of the day. She had 18 earlier
in the week in a 14-inning victory over Harrison, giving her a one week
strike out total of 43.

Karissa Inglis pitched well for Lake Central in a losing effort, striking out six while giving up just one earned run.

McCutheon improved to 10-1 with the victory and Lake Central fell to 6-5.

Here are the rest of the scores from the 20th annual Mav Classic

Franklin Central 3, Lake Central 0
Franklin Central 11, Turkey Run 0 (5)
Lake Central 10, Turkey Run 0 (5)
